Building Confidence & Safety for Peak Performance in Competition
This weeks Perfect 10.0 PT Enlightenment we will wrap up our discussion on Peaking at the Right Time.
As we progress through the competitive season, one of the key elements for success is maintaining stability—both physically and mentally—throughout each meet.
Athletes must continuously refine their tools & strategies to perform at their best.
This process involves intentional resets, mindset adjustments, and tailored training plans.
The Power of a Reset
After every meet, it’s crucial to take a moment for reflection before moving forward. Athletes should analyze what they are proud of (mentally, emotionally, physically (not scores or places), what worked, what didn’t, and what adjustments they need to make.
Be sure to CELEBRATE the small or big wins and the lessons learned!
One dedicated practice for both celebration of the learning and have fun allows the nervous system to achieve closure, ensuring that each meet is a stepping stone rather than a stumbling block.
Training Plans: Aligning with Meet Goals
Each phase of training should align with the competitive calendar, reinforcing skills & strategies already developed while preparing for the next challenge.
A strong foundation is key—mastering the phase at hand builds confidence for what’s ahead. Rather than rushing into upgrades, training should focus on refining consistency and execution.
The Science of Sticking the Landing
As we approach the high-stakes meets—state, regionals, nationals—the focus shifts to precision. Sticking landings becomes a priority, but it’s essential to set realistic expectations.
Athletes should have planned landings based on their strengths, minimizing deductions and maximizing their score.
A well-structured warm-up, combined with specific sticking drills, ensures that muscle memory kicks in when it matters most.

Creating a Safe & Supportive Environment
One of the most overlooked yet crucial components of an athlete’s success is the sense of safety—both physically and emotionally.
When athletes feel secure, they perform at their best. This safety net is built through structured communication, clear expectations, and a supportive team environment where setbacks are seen as learning opportunities rather than failures.
When athletes, coaches, and parents are aligned in their approach, it fosters a culture of confidence and growth.

Preparing for the Big Stage
As athletes head into their final competitions, it’s important to create training environments that simulate meet pressure. Bringing in an audience—whether parents, teammates, or other gym members—can help replicate the nerves of a real competition.
Additionally, reinforcing the message that the work is done and the athletes are already successful alleviates unnecessary stress. The final phase should be about empowerment, allowing athletes to take ownership of their preparation and performance.
